Offshore wind energy is gaining momentum. It has the backing of policy makers and is becoming increasingly competitive as the cost of conventional energy sources continues to rise. The world’s largest offshore wind farm is currently being built in the North Sea off the coast of Denmark, while the first five-megawatt plant in German waters is under construction off Borkum. Bilfinger Berger is involved in both projects in its role as a specialist in complex foundation engineering.
We are also providing solutions in other areas that enable a more responsible use of resources. Catering to the needs of our real estate clients,we are developing concepts that substantially reduce both operating costs and the environmental impact of their buildings. Together with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, a renowned German research institute, we are carrying out a highly regarded pilot project that could fundamentally alter the way local authorities manage water supplies. In Berlin we are implementing innovative energy concepts that allow public buildings to dramatically reduce energy consumption. And, together with partners from the energy-generating industry, we are developing processes to reduce the amount of CO2 emitted by coal- and lignite-fired power plants.
We are constantly seeking ways to more efficiently meet the challenges of environmental and climate protection. After all, economics and ecology both require us to use resources in a way which creates long-term value. Which is what the Bilfinger Berger Multi Service Group is all about.
Yours truly,
HERBERT BODNER
